Annual Visit of Ohio's International Managing Directors
March 19-23, 2007

Managing directors from Ohio's international trade offices visited Ohio March 19-23, 2007.  Every year the managing directors of the Ohio Department of Development, International Trade Division (ITD), come to Ohio and travel the state to discuss trade opportunities in their respective regions.  Ohio's 11 international trade offices are located in the following countries:  Belgium, Canada, Hong Kong, Israel, Japan, and Mexico, with shared offices in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and South Africa. In addition, an international trade office located in Shanghai, China, has been opened in cooperation with the Ohio Soybean Council .

Throughout the week, managing directors held seminars in Cuyahoga Falls, Dayton, Cincinnati, Columbus, and Toledo.  These seminars gave officials from Ohio-based companies the opportunity to learn about the export markets of different regions, meet the Managing Directors, and network with each other.  Those who attended were able to create connections and find information to bolster their international trade for not only this coming year, but for many years to come.

The highlight of the week was the annual reception that was held at the Statehouse on Thursday, March 22.  Among the several hundred guests who attended were Lieutenant Governor Lee Fisher and Mark Barbash, Chief Economic Development Officer of the Ohio Department of Development.  Lieutenant Governor Fisher gave an enlightening speech about the continual growth of Ohio's economy due to foreign investment in the state.  He also emphasized his commitment to maintaining a focus on international trade issues that will benefit Ohio in the future.  The reception also marked the last opportunity of the week for officials to network with the managing directors.
